Harry Potter!
Forget Hogwart's School of Wizardry! All the action was at Border's Bookstore on Friday 16th March for a Harry Potter Extravaganza.
Thirty avid Harry Potter fans boarded the Hogwarts Express (well the Oxford bus) to visit the bookstore for a real life game of Quidditch; much to the amazement of the customers in the shop at the time. The pupils also enjoyed two story-telling sessions from J.K. Rowlings short stories.
Special congratulations to the winners of the writing competition, entitled “What Harry Potter means to me”. Each received a book token donated by Borders.

Term Dates 2001 - 2002
There have been some changes to the calendar for the next school year. The most important change is that the summer half-term has been moved from its usual place in the last week of May to the first week of June, to coincide with the special Bank Holiday to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
City schools will be closed for pupils for staff training days in connection with the City re-organisation on Monday 29th October 2001; Friday 8th February 2002 and Monday 8th April 2002.

Year 5 children really get to grips with IT at Boreatton Park!
On Friday 18th May 2001, 17 Year 5 children went with Miss Munro, Ms Fox and Mr Owen for a long weekend of “Exploring IT” at Boreatton Park, a PGL Adventure Centre near Shrewsbury. The children enjoyed trying their hand at various ICT skills, such as programming a robot using Robolab, using datalogging equipment to measure temperature, using a Roamer to save a penguin (a toy one, of course) and even recording their own excellent dance tracks!
When they were not in the computer suites, they were having a go at some exciting outdoor pursuits. They built their own rafts. The children had great fun trying to sail their creations on the lake; unfortunately, most of them ended up swimming in it instead! Many children successfully completed the high ropes course; in this activity the children had to walk along a wire which followed some ropes which were suspended 40 feet up in the air. The children were of course wearing harnesses which were attached to the course via a system of ropes, plus they had lovely PGL staff to guide them through but this did not make the high ropes course any less scary - ask Ms Fox, she'll tell you! On the archery field the children shot their arrows with precision in order to pop the balloons on the targets and avoid a forfeit.

In the evenings the children were kept entertained with a disco, flag games and, on our last night, a campfire with silly songs and even sillier actions! By the time it came to getting back on the coach to go and catch the train home, everyone had a truly memorable weekend.
Miss Munro would like to thank Ms Fox and Mr Owen for their invaluable help and support on this visit - particularly on the trains! She would also like to say a massive well done to all 17 of the children who took part. They were brilliant, shining, superstars; as they did themselves and the school very proud with the excellent behaviour and mature attitude.
