School Brochure
Lawn Upton Middle School is on the southern fringe of the City of Oxford, adjacent to the ring road and is part of the South Oxfordshire Partnership of schools consisting of one upper school, two middle schools and six first schools. The Headteacher's meet regularly to discuss policies and subject teachers also meet to ensure that programmes of study are comprehensive and that assessment is consistent. The school also benefits from being part of the Education Action Zone. Lawn Upton Middle School is the middle school serving the east of the partnership, taking pupils from six feeder first schools at the age of 9 and transferring them to upper school when they are 13 years old.
Admission and Transfer
We aim to admit all pupils and welcome those who are differently abled. Our admission capacity is 145 with preference given to those who live within the catchment area. At the age of nine pupils transfer from their first schools to middle school. From the Autumn term prior to transfer, contact is made with parents and pupils and this forms the first stage of a transfer and induction programme. Year 4 children are invited to concerts and productions. In June and July our teachers visit first schools and the children spend a day in our school with their new teacher, so that they already have knowledge and experience of the school before they arrive in September. A similar transfer programme is repeated for pupils in Year 8 to prepare them for upper school.
Lunch -Time Arrangements
We are fortunate in having cooked school lunches, which are served in the dining room. Children go to lunch in tutor groups according to a pre-arranged rota. At the end of their meal they are expected to clear away their plates and cutlery and leave the tables ready for the next group. The daily menu offers a choice of main dish courses including meat, fish and vegetarian courses as well as desserts. Meals are usually paid for on a daily basis. Free meals are provided for those children who are eligible. Children wishing to bring a packed lunch may do so and eat it in the school hall. Children are expected to stay on the premises during the lunchtime unless, with specific permission from their parents, they are given a pass to eat their midday meal at home.
